What is Parent/Child?

Basically, the Parent/Child Program is about "following the child",-spending "present" time peacefully and joyfully together within a developmentally appropriate Prepared Environment.

There are numerous activities available: art activities, simple puzzles, gross motor, water play...   I hope you will explore them together and enjoy your time with us.  See what your child is drawn to.  We try not to direct/lead too much, but rather, seek to find the right balance to allow for your child’s discovery.

As parents, you are your child’s most precious teacher. You will set the stage for the unfolding of the miraculous human being in your care.  We will together set the tone for the experiences here- by being calm, soft-spoken and happy.

Parents’ main focus is on their own children.  Each parent shadows their own child, (facilitating and sharing learning experiences...watching for safety, modeling appropriate behavior, guiding social interactions, helping to keep order...) however, friendships among the parents naturally begin, -and as the school year evolves, the children are "shared" more.  A feeling of community grows.

We will “work” primarily in the Environment, and every session will be concluded with a group song/fingerplay time.  I will have a snack out (usually crackers and juice), but feel free to bring your own, if you wish.

There are handouts through the year, about Montessori and concerning topics that are of general interest to families with young children.  The Parent-Child Class is a shared journey together- with insights, wonder and love for our children!
